Nesbitt, James III, M.D., 87, a Native Miamian, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents James and Jane G. Nesbitt, his son James Allan Nesbitt, his brother Judge Joseph Nesbitt and his lifelong friend Ed Johnson. He is survived by his daughter Dr. Janet G. Nesbitt (Dr. James H. Block), grandson Adam L. Block and lifelong friend Tom Lipps.

Jim received his education at Vanderbilt, Emory, University of Alabama, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York. He was a co-founder of South Miami Hospital and head of the Radiology Department for many years. He was absolutely dedicated to his profession and the advancement of medicine. His many interests included world travel, the arts, history, and cooking. Jim was very quick witted and always had a clever quip. He served in the U.S. Navy, and when they needed doctors for the Korean War, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and sent overseas.

He understood the hardships of life but appreciated the rewards and never backed down from a challenge. The family is forever grateful to his caretakers Wilhelmina Smith, Gloria Wilson, Helen Steinmann and his grandson’s “Nana,” Ana Maria Prieto.

He will be sadly missed.
