James Edward Carter, 87, died September 30, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. James was born on December 26, 1933, in Graceville, Florida to Augustus and Audrey Carter.
After high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force where he earned both a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged. He lived most of his life in Tallahassee where he and his wife of 62 years raised their four daughters. He was a quiet, easy-going man who loved to read.
He enjoyed being at home, but was always ready to go camping or fishing with his girls. He loved to play poker with his buddies and was known by his neighborhood and family for hosting great fish fries. He loved to shuck oysters for his four girls, rarely getting any for himself. He loved to take his girls fishing and even baited hooks for them.
He could smell a bream bed from a mile away! James leaves his memory to be cherished by his wife, Frances Carter; daughters, Debra Gay Fulbright, Faye Watson (Wayne), Dorothy Thagard, (Victor) and Casey Caroline Carter; sisters, Faye Brake and June Crutchfield; grandchildren, Brandie Ross, Daniel Fulbright, David Bradley McCulley, Kristen Weeks, Allison Tackett, Lacey & Gracie Lindquist; and four great-grandchildren, Michelle, Christopher, Ryker and Kimberly.
