Horace Winford Cushing, 91, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Summerdale, Alabama. He was born to Malcolm Alex Cushing and Etha Ida Rich Cushing on June 28, 1929. After graduating from Washington County High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge he transferred to Army Reserve for four years. During this time, he secured a job as a truck driver where he remained for the next 34 years. In 1950, he married his sweetheart Joyce Raye Turner Cushing They were blessed with four daughters: Jill, Patsy, Cathy and Cindy. In 1955, they joined Fellowship Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon and they both served faithfully. In their retirement years, they enjoyed traveling through all fifty states.
He is also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Raye Turner Cushing; his daughter, Jill Cushing McArthur; and siblings, James Malcolm Cushing, Dawnita Cushing Droney, Theodore Cushing, Robert Cushing and Earl A. Cushing.
Survivors include his daughters, Pat (Thad Lee), Cathy Brock-Revell and Cindy (David Retherford). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Ryan (Kari), Michael (Jessica), Patrick (Kendall); Katy (Justin), Amy (Kevin), John (Connie), Jason (Amanda), Julie (Ricky), Lance (Michelle), Lawrence (Kimberly), Lynn (Eddie Joe), and Sarah (Zack); 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Winona Tadlock, Harrell Cushing, Ruth Garrett, Carolyn (Pat Anderson), Naomi (John Ferguson) and a sister-in-law, Mary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
