Harold Torkel Andersen, age 79 of Milford died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in his daughter’s home in Lakeland, FL surrounded by his loving family. Harold was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years Mary Lou Keane Andersen. Son of the late Andreas Nils Andersen and Elisabeth Ellen Hagland Andersen he was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 16, 1931. He leaves six children, Mary Beth Motl (Jim) of Monroe, Kathleen Andersen (Joanne Diven) of Rockville, MD, James Andersen (Patty) of Excelsior, MN, Eileen Dirgo (Bill Gamble) of Milford, Carolyn Andersen of Milford and Harold T. Andersen Jr (Nancy) of Woodbridge. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Jennifer Idone, Jon and Emily Motl, Elizabeth, James Jr, Patrick and Christine Andersen, Jocelyn Dirgo and Will Gamble, Caitlin, Colleen and Craig Simses, Lucy and Harris Andersen and his great granddaughter Laila Elisabeth Idone. He also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Harold was predeceased by his brothers Nils and Olaf Andersen, as well as his ‘eternal shipmate’ Raymond Edward Collins.

Harold was a proud Navy Veteran of the Korean War who served on the USS Mullaney and USS Rusk. He was employed by the United Illuminating Company for 40 years as a shift supervisor. He was a proud son of Norway, “one of the golfers” of Lasses’ Wednesday group, but most of all a loving husband to Mary Lou and father of six. He will be remembered as a man of great strength, wit, humor and love.

Each of us were touched in a unique way by this exceptional man, but Harold will be remembered by all for his ability to love unconditionally and without any shame to show it. He had an innate ability to make every person in his life feel like the only person in the world. The family firmly believes they were truly blessed to have him in their lives and know that Mary Lou eagerly awaited him in Heaven.
