Gerald Palmer Ellsworth, Maj. USAF, Ret, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the Big Bend Hospice House, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Buffalo, New York on August 29, 1932, he was a son of the late William F. and Vera J. Palmer Ellsworth. Also preceding him in death are his wife, Marcia R. Martin Ellsworth; daughter, Victoria L. Ellsworth; and sister, Arlene D. Huck.
He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1948 and served until 1971, retiring with the rank of Major. Following his military career, he worked for the State of Florida Department of Corrections for 18 years in Medical Health Care Services. After retiring from the State, he became a Correctional Healthcare Services Consultant for the American Correctional Association, traveling to many different prisons across the country in order to help raise medical standards for state inmates.
Jerry as he like to be called, was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church and also attended Grace Lutheran Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling and transporting shelter animals to rescue. His family describes him as a true servant of God.
He will missed by his daughter, Catherine Ellsworth; son, Paul G. Ellsworth; grandsons, James L. Yerkes and John W. Yerkes; granddaughter, Elisabeth A. Yerkes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a dear friend, Joni Canova, her family as well as friends who loved, appreciated and helped Jerry enjoy life.
