Mr. George M. “Joe” Harris, age 83, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Saturday, November 11th, 2017 at the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.
Mr. Harris was born in Fredonia, Alabama on August 5th, 1934 to the late Charles Monroe Harris and Sarah Crenshaw Harris. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Louise Harris Thrower, Louise M. Weldon, Betty M. Crenshaw, Cecil M. Moore, and Darrell T. Moore.
After high school, Joe enlisted and served in the United States Army.
Joe retired from the West Point Foundry where he worked installing much of the machinery used in the foundry’s daily operations. He continued to work after his retirement with Doug Flanary. He was a man with a strong work ethic and enjoyed working his entire life.
Away from work, he enjoyed tinkering in his barn, the outdoors, cooking, and always helping others.
He was a member of Lanier Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita O’Neal Harris; son, Danny Ray Harris and his wife, Marsheila, Valley; siblings, Bertha Bishop, Opelika, Dorothy H. Williams, Valley, Curtis H. Moore and his wife, Jane, Lanett, Shirley M. Owens and her husband, Hoyt, Lanett, James A. Moore and his wife, Betty, LaGrange; grandchildren, Robin Harris, Lanett, Brian “Buster” Harris, North Carolina, Vickie Lynn Smith, Orlando, FL., Leigh Ann Graben, Valley; 4 great –grandchildren.
