Freeman Carter, one of fifteen siblings, was born January 23, 1931 to the late Dan and Bessie Carter, Philadelphia, Mississippi (Neshoba County). He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. His five surviving siblings are Emma Ree Wess (Reverend Lindburg Wess), Walterine Denmark (Dr. Robert Denmark), Philadelphia, Mississippi, Johnnie Ruth Cottrell (William), Chicago, Illinois, Floyd Carter (Gertha), Moss Point, Mississippi, Billie Earl Carter (Monica), San Jose, California. He also leaves five sisters-in-law, Clara Carter, Jackson, Mississippi, Eunice Pinskton, Forest, Mississippi, Virginia Morgan, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Patricia Carter, and Kathy Carter, Philadelphia, Mississippi.
Freeman shared a special bond with his parents’ and family.
He received a formal education from Philadelphia, Mississippi Public School District (Neshoba County). He subsequently relocated to Orange County, Florida and attained vocational education credentials from Orange County Vocational School, Orlando, Florida.
Freeman was happily married to Joann Gardner Carter, a prominent citizen, who departed life, April, 1986. They were blessed with six children; Ore Nell Carter McMillon, Jerry Carter, Hilda Carter (deceased), Franklin Carter, Mitchell Carter and Danny Carter (infant deaths). Freeman was a loving, devoted father, very supportive of his children and their accomplishments.
He enjoyed wrestling, fishing, hunting, and riding his Four Wheeler.
Freeman will forever be remembered as a kind, friendly, devoted father and hardworking family man. Surrounded by his family, he was called to his Heavenly Home, August 17, 2016 while hospitalized at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving, devoted, daughter and caregiver, Ore Nell Carter McMillon, Jonesboro, Georgia, supportive son, Jerry Carter (Cathy), Orlando, Florida, loving son Franklin Carter, Macon, Georgia, 25 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
