Dwight D. DeBoer, 75, a resident of Tallahassee for 45 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Dwight was born on December 9, 1941, in Belleville, Illinois, the second child of Bill and Rose DeBoer. He was a graduate of Miami Senior High School, Miami-Dade Junior College, and earned a BS in Computer Science with a minor in Accounting at Florida Atlantic University. After graduation he worked for the National Cash Register Company who transferred him to Tallahassee in 1971. He later worked for Mobile Home Industries, and retired from the Florida Department of Financial Services in 2005 as a financial administrator. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1961, serving as military police at Homestead Air Force Base under the Strategic Air Command (SAC). He was on duty at the Opa Locka Naval Air Station in Miami in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After moving to Tallahassee he remained a reservist at Eglin AFB, later transferring to Tyndall AFB where he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1994. He proudly served his country for 26 years. Dwight married his wife, Sherrie, in 1962, and they had two children, Daryn and Dana. He was a devoted family man with a fun-loving and outgoing personality. He was also an avid sports enthusiast having played semi-professional baseball in Miami, was an assistant baseball coach at Miami-Dade Junior College, and a member of the Florida All-Star Bowling Association. He coached youth and junior major baseball and flag football for 10 years for Tallahassee Parks and Recreation. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Florida State Seminoles and Miami Dolphins fan, and was on the Orange Bowl Committee for five years helping to stage parades and other events in the Miami area. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sherrie DeBoer; a son, Daryn DeBoer; a daughter, Dana DeBoer; one granddaughter, Savannah DeBoer; a great granddaughter, Adelaide Rose DeBoer; two nieces, Debbie and Jackie O’Brien of Miami and Fort Lauderdale; and his faithful companion dog, Sadie. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Bill and Rose DeBoer, and his sister, Dee O’Brien.
