Mr. Charles “Bobby” Mathews, age 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 20, 2015, surrounded by family. He was born February 01, 1937, in Walton County, Florida to Joel Archie and Mary Ardella Mathews.
He was a member of Caney Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon since 1964. He attended Baldwin Avenue Baptist Church.
Mr. Mathews worked as a manager of the Eglin Exchange Services before retiring, then along with his son, started Mathews and Son Trucking. He also worked as Fleet Manager of feed trucks at Showell Farms/Perdue until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, farming, and woodworking. He loved to build swings, birdhouses and feeders.
Mr. Mathews is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Adice Gill Mathews, one son Roy Mathews and wife Sandi of DeFuniak Springs; one daughter Debra Mathews Alford and husband Dale of the Darlington Community; four brothers Tommy Mathews of the Caney Creek Community, James Mathews and wife Ruth of Geneva, Alabama, Winston Mathews and wife Joan of Ball Grand, Georgia, Larry Mathews and wife Charlotte of the Caney Creek Community; two sisters Alice McRae and husband Bill, Louise Edison and husband Curtis of Paxton, Florida; five granddaughters Heather Gainey and husband Henry, Amanda Webb and fiancAC. Ben Bradford of DeFuniak Springs, Dusti Coacher and husband Ryan of Jacksonville, NC, Jennifer Walker of Samson, AL, Jessica Cook and husband Ryan of DeFuniak Springs, FL; great grandchildren, Justin & Jason Walker, Fisher Gainey, Kowen Webb, Addison, Payson & Lane Cook, Braylin & Grant Coacher, Alec Farrow, and Blaze Bradford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Billy Joe Mathews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his extended family, Anice Franklin, Juanita Reddick, Ester Edwards, Jessie May & Marlin Curry, Dallas & Jewel Reddick, Lester & Shilla Gill, and Buddy Gill. Also, to his caring friends and the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice.
