Mr. Cecil Eugene “Gene” Smith, age 73, of Valley passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born in Langdale, Alabama on May 14, 1944.
Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Smith attended Auburn University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Counseling from Troy University. He worked for West Point Pepperell as a Quality Control manager.
His interests included wood working, working in his yard, and he was an avid reader. He was an avid Auburn University football fan and an authority on the Civil War.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Opelika, Alabama.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Kathy Gambrell Smith, Valley; daughter, Nikki (Chris) Yetter, Athens, GA.; grandchildren, Beatrice Yetter, Athens, GA., Cecilia Yetter, Athens, GA.; brother, Terrell Smith, Lineville, AL.; sister, Donna Ragsdale, St. Peters, Missouri; dear friend, Charles Orange; and his beloved dog, Macy.
