Al Brenner was born on November 13, 1947 in the small town of Benton Harbour, Michigan. His interest in football took hold during his time at Niles High School where his play caught the attention of a number of colleges that offered scholarships. It was 1966 when Brenner played in what many called, “The Game of the Century.” Two teams a” Michigan State and Notre Dame a” both ranked number one in the country, squared off playing to a heart stopping10-10 tie.
The small town boy must have been on top of the world when three paths were put before him. He could follow the academic path and accept one of three post-graduate university scholarships offered to him; sign up with the Chicago Cubs to play professional baseball or sign up with the New York Giants. He opted for the latter.
“I’ve been playing football for as long as I can remember… and you always dream of playing in the pro ranks. I want to go to law school eventually, He played for the New York Giants from 1969-1971 Coach from Michigan State, Al Dorow, recruited him to play for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, where Dorow was coaching.
Brenner retired from football in 1977 choosing to pursue private business interests in the field of advertising and joining the sales team at the Prudential Insurance office in Oakville, Ontario
