Mother Helen Rose Dixon was born on October 21, 1935, in Columbus, Mississippi to her parents, Doc Amos and Lillian Sims. She was the second out of ten children born in the family. She completed her early education by attending the public school system in Columbus, Mississippi. On January 13, 1960, Helen united in holy matrimony to Ralph Dixon in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the proud mother of five beautiful children. Michael, Vernita, Shirley, Alicia and Asia. The care and nurture of her family was most important to her. They all remember her cooking as the best. She taught them life lessons of being responsible and they have shared those teaching with their children. Ralph preceded her in death in 1983. Helen was later blessed with thirteen grandchildren, Letetia, LaKenya, Marquetta, Brandis, Micajah, Kiarah, Michael, Jr., Danielle, Michael, III, Mathias, Prince, AJ and Decorian;18 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her “Na Na” and fondly remember her taking pictures of all of them, the early morning wake up calls and all the “good old fashion grandma kisses.” They too have many happy and memorable moments of times shared together. By profession, Mother Dixon was employed by both Children’s Hospital and the Denver Public School System. Her co-workers remember her being hardworking, dependable and a joy to work with. They also remember her perfume, White Diamonds and how the aroma would be left in every room she entered.
