Mr. Monte W. Fisher, 74, of Elkhart, passed away quietly at Elkhart General Hospital on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 7:36 in the morning. Monte’s arrival in Heaven, on the other hand, was joyous and loud; reportedly forcing the Devil to send up a message requesting for them to keep the noise down!

Born in Sturgis, Michigan on April 24, 1948 to the late Glenwood “Dale” Fisher and Mildred (Schiele) Fisher Fronk, Monte was the last of a set of triplets born that day, preceded in birth by his sisters Marlene and Marilyn, and he was always proud of the fact that he was a gentleman from the beginning; allowing the ladies to be born first. On April 6, 1993, he convinced Marcia L. (Anderson) to finally marry him, so after a whirlwind trip to Vegas where they were married in “The Little White Chapel” (by a pastor that looked like Elvis, no doubt) and settled down to almost 30 wonderful years together. In fact, he bragged that if they made it to their 30th anniversary he was going to take her to Hawaii. Then, on their 40th anniversary, he figured he’d go back and pick her up.

Besides his lovely Marcia, those gutsy enough to claim Monte as a relative include his beloved sons Derek M. Fisher of Elkhart and Todd (Jodi) Fisher of Dewitt, Michigan; his sister Marilyn Bishop of Goshen, his grandchildren Callee and Bryce Fisher and a godson, Scott Fisher. A brother, Dennis Fisher, and sisters Donna Hanson and Marlene Bahnson precede Monte in death along with parents Dale and Mildred. Besides his immediate family, Monte is survived by a loving host of extended family, in-laws, outlaws, work friends, tavern buddies, fellow lake bums and some shady characters that we’re not supposed to talk about.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, Monte was a hard-working, fun-loving “family guy” who would accept nothing less than living life to the fullest. His philosophy was “you won’t live forever and you can’t take it with you”, so he endeavored to make the most out of every minute of what the Good Lord gave him. He could light up a room with his personality, and he loved to see those around him smile.

Monte was a tool room supervisor at CMI in Bristol for over 25 years, but his pride and joy were his family and friends and he didn’t waste a minute making sure everyone was having a great time.  Whether it was cruising Simonton Lake on his deck boat with his beloved Marcia, firing up the grill or having folks over for a Notre Dame or Chicago Bears football game, Monte was always in his element; laughing, joking and firing off snarky one-liners…. “Ya know, they picked me for my motivational skills down at CMI”.  “Oh really?” “Yeah, people say when I’m around, they have to work twice as hard!”….

Although Monte loved to spend time around his friends, especially at “The Watering Hole” or “Re-Pete’s Simonton Tavern”, he also found his Zen just relaxing at home. He was an absolute fanatic about his crisp, neatly-coiffed lawn, and boy did you have hell to pay if you raised a divot in his yard. He also loved to tinker in his garage, play pitch and catch in the yard with the football with his son, Derek, or just chill with Miller Lite and watch a Bears or Irish game on TV. I mean, what kind of person would pass up an afternoon cursing and shaking your head at Brian Kelly? His home was his castle, and he found great peace just puttering around outside.
