Monte was born on October 12, 1947, on the family farm in Wayne County near Hoskins; and died at his home in Norfolk on Sunday, June 11, 2017. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Pierce High School in 1965. After graduation, Monte worked at Walnut Grove in Norfolk before being drafted into the US Army in 1967. He served one year in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry, then returned to Fort Benning, Georgia and received his honorable discharge.
He returned to Norfolk in 1969 where he continued working at Walnut Grove. On February 14, 1970, Monte married Kaye Sindelar.
He began working for Presto X Pest Control Company in 1995 and became a Certified Pest Controller, retiring in 2008.
Monte is survived by his wife of 47 years; their son, Travis Marten of Lincoln, grandson Tristen Marten of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and three sisters, Jeanie Lovig of Norfolk, Betty Janssen of Omaha, and Carolyn Marten of Lincoln.
He was preceded by his parents, Lester and Evelyn (Otto) Marten, one brother, Joe Marten, nephew, Rod Lovig, father-in-law, Maurice Sindelar, and brother-in-law, Randy Sindelar.
