Modest (Monty) R. Holston, 79, of Niles, MI (formerly of South Bend, IN and Plymouth, IN) passed away at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in his home, with loving family members at his side.
He was born on April 27, 1934 to the late Ralph and Helen (Smous) Holston in Argos, IN, and has lived in Niles, MI for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he lived in South Bend for 25 years. Along with his parents; one sister, Joyce Lusk; three brothers, Erdman, Lynn, and Earl Holston; and one step-daughter, Dani Carmichael also preceded him in death.
Monty worked for Verkler Construction for many years and later owned his own construction repair business, Holston Contracting, before retiring in 1997. In his younger days, he was a volunteer firefighter for the Lydick Fire Department, and a coach in the Plymouth Little League, where he won a championship.
On March 9, 1979, he married Mary Ann (Horvath) Izdepski in South Bend, IN.
Monty is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Holston of Niles, MI; one daughter, Debra Holston of South Bend, IN; one son, Rodger Holston of Niles, MI; three step-sons, Scott (Kim) Izdepski of South Bend, IN; Andrew (Wendy) Izdepski of South Bend, IN; David Izdepski of Mesa, AZ; one grandson, Ryan Holston of Mishawaka, IN; three step -grandchildren, Jennifer (Lee) Purdy of Osceola, IN; Daniel Izdepski of Niles, MI; Austin Merrill of South Bend, IN; and one brother, Leland Holston of New Carlisle, IN.
Monty was a diehard Cubs fan and a Bobby Knight fan, and recently loved listening to the N.D. women’s basketball games. He loved traveling, gardening and visiting with friends. He especially thought the world of his grandson, Ryan.
