Modena Ray Henry, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to her Heavenly home on January 27, 2023.

Modena was born on August 25, 1931, in Farm Haven, Mississippi, to Clarence and Joycie Ray. She grew up in a loving home with her sister, Alma Faye, and brother, Melvin.

Modena Ray and Leon Austin Henry were married on June 24, 1951, at the Henry Family Home. They would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this year. Their two sons are Leon Austin Henry, Jr. and Michael Ray Henry.

Modena was loved and admired by those who were blessed to know her. She was the ultimate “southern lady” – always gracious and welcoming to all. She was a superb cook and enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for family and friends. In fact, she turned every meal into a special occasion. Everyone who experienced her hospitality was truly fortunate and could not forget it.

Modena was a woman of deep and abiding faith and a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church in Vicksburg. She lived out her faith through her constant concern and compassion for others. So many times, throughout her life, she was actively involved in caring for others who were ill or in distress.

Modena is survived by her husband, Leon Austin Henry, and her sons, Leon Austin Henry, Jr. and Michael Ray and wife Dixie; her grandchildren, Anya Ray Keen (Jim) and David Austin Henry (Holly); and her great grandchildren, Will Keen, Lorelie Keen and Nevel Oberlander; her sister, Alma Faye, her sister-in-law, Ruth Ray; and her special cousin Charlotte Biedenharn.

Modena will be greatly missed but also lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Her life and legacy will continue to serve as an example and encouragement to those who were blessed to know her.
