Miriam Louise Anderson, 87, of Jacksonville, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at Passavant Area Hospital.
She was born Jan. 22, 1927, in Galesburg, the daughter of Willis and Annis Jones Day. She married Roger G. Anderson on Mar. 27, 1948, in Abingdon, and he survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Jeff) Maurer of Cissna Park; son, Max (Karen) Anderson of Algonquin; four grandchildren, Mandy (Ben) Henrichs, Ashley (Chris) Nazarczuk, Jennifer Maurer and Jeffrey Maurer; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty Underwood; and brother, Harold Day (surviving wife Norma of Geneseo).
Mrs. Anderson received her bachelor’s degree in business education in 1948 from Western Illinois University, where she was a charter member of Sigma Sigma Sigma. She then taught at Colchester High School and Viola High School. In 1954, she and Roger moved to Jacksonville. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for 60 years, serving on many committees, as well as being a member of the Crafty Ladies, and she attended Explorers Bible Study for 39 years. She had also been a home bound teacher for Jacksonville School District #117. Miriam enjoyed making numerous quilts, baskets and all types of crafts, and was an avid reader. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
