On December 8th, 2020, the world lost one tough lady.

Miriam Janine Farris was 61 years young and left this world better than how she found it. She did that with most things. She’d organize it, clean it, feed it, fix it or make sure it got done and done right. The woman took care of business.

She took care of people too. She was a devoted wife and, later, a loving caregiver to her husband. She proudly raised a daughter, deeply cared for her siblings and was a dutiful daughter to her mother (who, incidentally, is one tough lady too).

She was beautiful and carried herself with dignity. She looked worthy of a crown even while mowing the lawn in a tube top. Her daughter hoped to grow up to be just like her. Sadly, she fell short by 6 inches. “That’s what heels are for!” Miriam would say.

She loved animals. Yogi (both 1 and 2), Boo-Boo, Spanky, Pokey and Baby worshipped her. Today, they’re all happy to be reunited at last.

She never met a repairman she didn’t like. The electrician who last came to the house found a friend in Miriam. She was happy to offer him a cup of tea and a chance to share stories about the spouses they each had lost.

She never met a computer she liked. All forms of technology were referred to as “that damn thing.” Her printer will not miss her.

She made the best green chili. If you disagree, we regret to inform you you’re wrong.

She retired from the Colorado State Hospital in 2009.

She will be missed by Detectives Benson, Stabler and the other cast members of Law & Order. CSI can go to heck.

She is survived by her mother, Nona Larson; daughter Mary Unger, Mary’s husband Hans and grandchildren Chase and Evan; sisters Phyllis Starner and Denise Provenza; nieces Karlee Provenza and Lauren “Missy” Hanson, and nephew Jacob Hanson. She is preceded in death by her father Sheldon Larson and brothers Merle and Allen. She is now with her husband, Kevin Farris. She was taken from us too soon but not soon enough for Kevin.
