Miriam Ethel Henry, age 86, of Rensselaer, formerly of Winamac, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at the Rensselaer Care Center.
She was born November 30, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of David and Isabell (Murtaugh) Knapp. Miriam attended the Burlington County College of NJ where she earned her LPN. She married Harry Havens, with whom she had 3 children, and he preceded her in death. She later married Alfonso Henry who also preceded her in death in 2012. Miriam was a dedicated member of the local Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, most recently the Rensselaer Congregation. She worked as an LPN for some time when living on the East Coast, but was a skilled and at some times, professional artist. She was best known for her oil paintings that always looked more like an actual photograph. She also loved music and played piano on a daily basis. Miriam had a fondness for the American Indian culture and lent much of her art creating in that direction. She also liked the outdoors, cross-country traveling, and camping as well.
Miriam is survived by her children: Janis Jensen of California; Donna Brown of California; Clifford (Denise) Havens of DeMotte, IN; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 2 grandchildren, and brothers, Robert and Lewis Knapp. Miriam will be truly missed and cherished by her family and many friends.
