Mircea (Micky) Manicatide of Fairfield, CT and Penobscot, ME, passed away February 28, 2017 at St. Vincent’s hospital at the age of 78. Micky was born in Bucharest, Romania to the late Theodore Manicatide, an accomplished amateur artist, and Florica (Mary) Manicatide. He grew up in postwar Europe and Turkey, and attended Institut La Villan in Switzerland. An ROTC student at Brown University class of 1964, Manicatide served in the Air Force in Turkey and Germany post-college. He rose to the rank of Captain in a 4-year deployment, overseeing disaster contingency planning for Incirlik Air Force base in Turkey and then serving in Air Force Intelligence in Wiesbaden, Germany. Settling in Connecticut, he was employed at CIGNA in Bloomfield, CT for 14 years, in the underwriting, actuarial and systems departments. He earned an M.B.A. at University of Hartford, going on to spend 11 years as Assistant to the President at Buck Consultants in New York. In retirement he was an avid bird watcher, traveler, and member of the Nutmeg Curling Club. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Barbara Manicatide, his daughter, artist Liz LaManche of Somerville, MA, and son-in-law Philip Servita.
