Minister Ran Lawson was born on November 4, 1935, to the late Deacon Levi and Leola Lawson in Unadilla, Georgia. Ran accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and worked as God’s servant. He attended the Georgia Public School System before his family relocated to Edison, New Jersey.

Ran moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey, and held various jobs in the automobile industry. He was employed by Chrysler Company as an auto body worker and mechanic before purchasing his own automotive repair business. Minister Lawson owned and operated his own auto repair business, Travelers Garage, in the city of Elizabeth, New Jersey for thirty-four years before retiring in 2002.

In his earlier years Ran enjoyed being a professional singer and guitarist for two groups, The Starlight singers of Plainfield, New Jersey, and The Original Southern Travels of Georgia. God used his anointed voice to bring healing and comfort to many through music and preaching.

Ran also served in many capacities at Mt. Pleasant Baptist in Edison, New Jersey that included Trustee, Usher, and Deacon for over forty years. 

As time passed Ran went on to become an active member of various churches. He was a servant at Shiloh Baptist in Elizabeth, New Jersey under Rev. William Ingram. Then he went on to join Greater Promise under Rev. Dr. Paul Young, in Linden, New Jersey. Ran then found his last church home at Lebanon Christian Fellowship Church in Plainfield, New Jersey under Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harrell.

Ran married Jewel Gosa at Shiloh Baptist Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey June 9, 2007, in a beautiful ceremony. They shared blessed marriage for over fifteen years.

Minister Lawson transitioned from this life on Wednesday May 17, 2023, at Rahway, Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents Levi and Leola Lawson, four brothers, Deacon William (Bill) Lawson, Deacon Plimmie Lee Lawson, Deacon Oscar Lee Lawson, Johnny Lawson; three sisters, Eunice Mae Hendley, Agnes Reed, and Smithmae Anderson.

Ran’s wonderful memories will be cherished by his loving wife, Minister Jewel Lawson, Elizabeth, New Jersey; seven children, Demetric (Erica) Gosa, Budd Lake, New Jersey; Jamaal Gosa, Pittsburgh, PA; Randy Lawson, Newark, NJ; Peggy Harrington, Elizabeth, NJ; Angelo Lawson, Arizona, Octavia Lawson, Arizona, Clayton Channing, Arizona. As well as grandchildren Felicia Thomas, Jermaine Smalls, Tyrese Harrington, Alexis Martin, Braylon Gosa and Bryce Gosa. Six brothers-In- Laws, Minister Jerry (Tameka) Walker, Glendora, NJ; Willie E. Walker, Carrollton, AL; Joe David (Mary) Walker, Carrollton, AL; Bernard (Melody) Walker, Linden, NJ; Anthony (Felicia) Walker, Ethelsville, AL; Terry (Tonisha) Walker; LaGrange, GA. Two sisters In Laws, Mary (Joe Lee) Taylor, Carrollton, AL; Edna Lawson of Orlando, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
