Mindy Joy Schwartz (née Horn), age 65, passed away in peace on June 6, 2022, in Chicago IL. She is sorely missed by her family, including her younger siblings Larry Horn (Nancy Rotunno), Felice Horn, Martin Horn (Joellynn Welch), and Cheryl Johnston (Steve Johnston), as well as her son Matthew Schwartz (Kathy Schwartz) and daughter Jacquelyn Schwartz (Martin Tijerina). Mindy’s spirit lives on in her four young grandchildren—Ella and Colton Tijerina, and Ava and Autumn Schwartz—who were her pride and joy.
Mindy was born in New York City to loving parents Selma Horn (née Ehrlich) and Ira Horn on April 13, 1957. From New York, she and her parents moved to Ohio and Missouri before settling in Mindy’s hometown of Park Forest, IL in 1964. There, she grew up alongside her four younger siblings and close childhood friends from the surrounding neighborhood. During her childhood, Mindy enjoyed swimming and participating in Rich East High School’s Symphonic and Marching band, where she played clarinet for 8 years. In addition, Mindy was also active in the Jewish community, and she was a proud member of her local B’nai B’rith Youth Organization (BBYO) chapter and the South Suburban Beth Israel Synagogue, which she attended regularly with her family.
After graduating from Rich East High School in 1975, Mindy went on to marry Jack Schwartz in June 1979. Six years later, they were blessed with twins Jacquelyn and Matthew, who were born in October 1985. Mindy loved her children, and her role as their mother was one she treasured above all others. After their birth, Mindy began taking classes at South Suburban College, and she graduated with academic honors in 1999. This ultimately led Mindy to pursue a fulfilling career as a paralegal.
Mindy’s children and grandchildren were the light of her life and greatest joy, a point she shared with anyone and everyone who knew her;,she was immensely proud of them and their many accomplishments.
