Milton “Milt” Lee Peterson, 80, of East Galesburg, IL died at 5:52 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. Milt was born April 16, 1939 in Galesburg, IL. He was the son of Marvin Arthur and Helen Christine (Leafgreen) Peterson.

Milt married Judith Simpson on November 30, 1974 in Macomb, IL. She survives as do three sons, Douglas Milton (Amy) Peterson of Libertyville, IL, Brian Arthur (Erica) Peterson of Galesburg, IL and Scott David (Elizabeth) Peterson of Monrovia, MD; ten grandsons, Evan, Dylan, Briggs, Zachary, Douglas, Ryan, Hayes, Miller, William and Cooper; one sister, Carolyn Davis of Knoxville, IL; many nieces and nephews; and numerous dear and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He graduated from Valley High School, Fairview, IL in 1957 and graduated from Western Illinois University in 1961. Milt served in the US Army for two years. He then started working at the Bank of Galesburg and retired from First Midwest Bank in 1999 after 31 years.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Galesburg Noon Rotary Club, the New Windsor Telephone Board, a past member of the Carl Sandburg College Foundation Board and the Galesburg Hospitals’ Ambulance Board.  Milt’s passions in life included travelling, fishing, farming and family.  Milt and Judy enjoyed travelling together throughout the United States, travelling to all but two states (Oregon and Hawaii). In addition, Milt was able to travel around the world with two very dear friends.

He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with both his close friends and family. He also especially enjoyed farming in his free time and taking his sons and grandsons to the farm. Milt believed the two most important things you can give your children are an education and wonderful memories and he certainly accomplished that. Milt’s family would like to extend their heartful gratitude to Dr. Srini and his staff at Fresenius for taking such wonderful care of him for the past 30 years.
