Milton Fred Hartenbower, 64, of Lostant, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Hartenbower was born August 4, 1954, at Elgin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, FL to Milton G. Jr. and Margaret Evelyn (Brittingham) Hartenbower. He was a graduate of Frederick Military Academy in Portsmouth, VA, Illinois Valley Community College, and Bradley University.

He married Catherine A. “Toni” Kennell on July 14, 1979, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Lostant. Mr. Hartenbower started several local businesses including Hart Electric in Lostant, HI Cable for television and internet service as well as working with his brothers restoring wooden boats. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lostant. He was previously active on the Lostant Fire Department, Lostant Ambulance, the Lostant School Board, and the Lostant village government, including being the Village President. He was also active in Milt’s Flying Club, started by his father, HEL Aviation, and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He helped coach t-ball when his kids were young and helped with several area celebrations, including the Lostant 150th Anniversary. In 2014, he received the Illinois Right to Life Champion of Life Award from the Illinois Right to Life Committee in Chicago.

Survivors include his wife, Toni; five children, Benjamin Hartenbower of Menomonie, WI, and John, Jacob, Zachary, and Mary Hartenbower all of Lostant; his grandson, Lane Hartenbower; his step-mother, Jo Hartenbower of Lostant; two brothers, Edward (Sherry) Hartenbower of Pooler, GA and Michael (Sharon) Hartenbower of Lostant and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
