Mildred Smith Riggan, 87, of Hawthorne, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at UF Health Shands in Gainesville following a brief illness. She was a native of Jacksonville and had lived in Hawthorne for many years. Mildred had worked as an administrative clerk in the insurance industry.

She was a member of Fleet Reserve Branch #183 in Interlachen and was of the Baptist faith. Mildred was an independent woman, full of life, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Mildred also loved monarch butterflies and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Riggan, Sr., parents, Ernest and Iola Smith, and brothers, Walter, William, and Thomas Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna R. Globig (Steve) of Orange Park, son, John Riggan of Jacksonville, grandchildren, Kayla Anderson (Jeremy) and Corey Riggan (Tori) as well as great-grandchildren, Zachary Anderson and John Dawson Riggan.
