Mildred Powell Davis, 93, died peacefully on Sunday morning, April 16, 2023 at the home of Jerry and Melba Gray. She was born at home in Wake County on January 5, 1930, the daughter of the late Addison and Maona Davis Powell. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Davis worked along side of her husband, Jay, in developing Silverleaf Subdivision. She was a faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church (now Covenant Hope Church) where she was the pianist for over 50 years. She loved working in her yard, tending to her flower gardens, watching birds, and decorating eggs.
She is survived by her nieces, Donna Pace, Linda Roberts-Betsch, and Sue Dark Browning; nephews, Randy Dark and Mark Dark; adopted families: Jerry and Melba Gray; grandchildren, LeAnne Gray Klein and husband, Nathan and Seth and Katelyn Gray; great-grandchildren, Kaya and Kadence Klein and Aubree and Jax Gray, Paul, Mia, Drew (Brooklyn and Blakely), Jacob (Meghan) Pinson; special cousins, Wayne Sherron and Melody Sherron.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband J.E. (Jay) Davis, Jr. and by her sister, Geneva Stephenson.
