Mildred Marie Meader, nee Schleicher, better known as “Mitzi” passed away peacefully at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. She was born January 27, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA to Harry and Lillian Schleicher and she grew up in Drexel Hill, PA with her older sister Doris. Their brother, Harry Jr., died in infancy. May 22,1954 Mitzi married David E Meader, and they settled in Woodbury, NJ where they had two daughters: Christine Lyn and Janelle Ann. Most summer weekends were spent at her parent’s lakeside cabin in NJ. They moved to 3 different towns in PA and in 1968 their hearts were broken when their daughter Chris passed away at the tender age of 9. In 1974 they moved across the country to Littleton, CO due to Dave’s job at Johns Manville. After Dave retired, they moved to a senior community in Aurora, CO where they became avid line dancers, “Boot Scooting” in their western wear, several times a week. Daughter Janelle and her husband Kevin settled in Aurora with their two young sons and Mitzi and Dave were thrilled to be “Memom and Grandpa”, cheering at ball games, watching concerts, celebrating holidays, and teaching them things like woodworking and how to bake a perfect pie.
Mitzi and Dave moved to Florida in 2003 shortly after Janelle and her family moved there. In 2009 Dave passed away at the William Childs Hospice House, where thirteen years later Mitzi was glad to go because she knew Dave would be there to show her the way and she could follow him home. In 2012 Mitzi became a great-grandmother when her grandson Alex and his wife Mary had a little boy, and just last year they welcomed a second son. She loved being with them and was amazed that she could see video of their everyday, adorable antics. Technology baffled her and she always said she was born in the wrong century, but she was grateful that it let her watch as her grandson Andy married Tiffany earlier this year. Mitzi spent the last few years of her life living just a few miles from her family at Buena Vida Estates where she lived independently and then in assisted living. She loved living there and joined in on trivia, crafts, cards, and other fun activities as well as joining family activities at her daughter’s home.
She was preceded in death by her husband David and their daughter Christine. She is survived by her daughter Janelle, (Kevin), Grandsons, Andrew (Tiffany), and Alex (Mary), and two great grandsons.
She will be greatly missed.
