Mildred “Millie” Grace Hannay, age 86, of Salem, died at 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Salem Regional Medical Center. She was born October 11, 1930 in Bedford, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Albert and Altie (Pittman) Smith.
She worked at the Salem Community Hospital as a Pharmacy Clerk for 15 years and previously at Howard Johnson Service Plaza as Assistant Manager for 14 years. Millie was an avid golfer and bowler. She was a former member of the Salem Hills Golf Course for many years and had a hole in one on the 16th hole. She also did volunteer work for Siamese Cat Rescue of Virginia and was known for creating the Millie Beds for fundraisers for the Siamese Rescue.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Robert S. Hannay; two daughters, Shirley (George) Bodirnea of Clemmons, North Carolina and Sharon (Charles) Baker of Salem; four grandchildren, Adrienne Russell, Adam (Jessica) Baker, Andrew Baker and Tricia (Dan) Zehentbauer; and three great grandchildren, Landon, Blake and Eli.
She was also preceded in death by a sister; and four brothers.
