Mildred “Mid” Thrasher Boruff

Mid was born in Bloomington, IN on August 12, 1922. She went to be with the Lord on the night of January 16, 2017 at the age of 94.

She was the 11th of 12 children born to Charles and Myrtle Thrasher of rural Monroe County, IN. In her youth, she acted with her siblings in a play that was written by their mother. They presented it throughout Monroe County.

Mid married Jesse Wilfred Boruff in February 1941 and they had one daughter (Patricia Ann) and two sons (James and John). Mid was an early employee of Bloomington’s former RCA plant. She worked very hard throughout her life and was proud to be of service to others in a variety of capacities. Jesse worked in a variety of careers over the years; and Mid was always at his side, helping him in each of his endeavors.

Though she never learned to drive an automobile herself, she loved to go for a drive to visit family, see the countryside, or enjoy a meal at a distant restaurant.

Jesse and Mid were exceptional gardeners, with crops every year beyond what they could consume. Lucky passers-by could buy the excess at her roadside table.

Mid was widowed in December 2003 after nearly 63 years of marriage. She continued to live independently and confidently for a number of years before finally being invited to share the home of her eldest child, Pat; where she lived until her passing.

In her final years, Mid made every effort to read through all the books offered by the local library. She read vociferously and could usually be found in her recliner with a book in her lap and a light over her shoulder.

At the time of her death, Mid had been a member of the Clear Creek Christian Church for 85 years.
Mid was often affectionately referred to as The Energizer Bunny because of the resources she tapped to keep going and going. She certainly lived up to that moniker in her last months on Earth as we’re sure she’s doing now on her journey to Heaven.

Pat Hallal and the family would like to thank the caregivers from IU Health Hospice who were so kind to Mid during her final days. Each and every one are caring and supportive and we are all very grateful for their compassion and kindness.

Left to cherish her memory (in Bloomington, IN, unless otherwise noted): her daughter, Patricia Ann Hallal; brother, William “Billie” Thrasher (Indianapolis, IN); grandchildren, Lori Ann Hallal (Louisville, KY), J.D. (Danielle) Boruff, Monica Hallal Mitchell, Matthew (Shelly Figg) Boruff, Leslie (Chris) Martin (Evansville, IN), Justin (Andrea) Boruff, and Consuela Hallal; daughter-in-law, Lois Boruff; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased in death by: her husband, Jesse Boruff; her sons, James and John; 10 of her siblings; and grandson-in-law, Tony (Leslie) Brooks.
