Mildred Lucille Qualls went Home to the Lord, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, May16, 2009 after more than 10 years courageously battling Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born in Brantley, AL on July 9, 1927 to Walter Jackson Burkett Sr. and Lucille Cory Burkett. She graduated from Andalusia High School and attended Montevallo Women’s College. While teaching at Lockhart Elementary School she met her sweetheart James D. Qualls. They were married on May 8, 1947 residing in Florala, AL and later moving to Fort Walton Beach, FL in 1951.

Mildred loved her Lord, family and friends.

She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 62 years, James D. Qualls, her daughter, Donna S. Rollins and son, Michael D. Qualls; her sister Elizabeth Dawkins and brother, Walter J. “Jackie” Burkett and wife, Jackie. Other surviving family members are her two granddaughters: Dee Anne Weber and husband Todd and two children Robin and Stephanie; Elizabeth Fuszner and husband Tom and son, Alex. Nieces and nephews: Jon and Kathy Burkett with their three sons; Jay Burkett and his two sons; Jud Burkett; Carolyn Gaines and husband Everett and daughter; Richard Dawkins and wife, Clara and two daughters. Numerous cousins including Voncille Jones and her three daughters and their families.

The Family of Mildred would like to express appreciation and gratitude for all the support and prayers that sustained them during these difficult days and years past. To all the nursing and care staff at Blue Water Bay Manor, sincere thanks for your love and care of Mildred. Also sincere thanks to the Twin Cities Hospital and staff, Hospice and the Benton House for all their care.
