Surrounded by loved ones, Mildred Geherty Urich passed away on October 2, 2015 in her home in Taft. Mildred was born in Hawthorne, California on December 15, 1918 to Frederick (Fritz) and Anna Niemann. In 1947 Mildred and her husband, Elmer, moved to Taft, CA. In the 1950s, Mildred was a stay-at-home mom and raised their children, Kent Geherty, Joyce Geherty Jones, Janis Geherty and step-children, Bill Geherty and Barbie Geherty Heldman. In 1962 Mildred went to work in the kitchen of West Side District Hospital. She worked for the next twenty-four years at the hospital, eventually becoming the Dietary Supervisor. Mildred, along with her best friend, Maggie Brown, participated in volunteer work at the local NEEDS Center and the Westside Oil Museum in Taft. In 1987 Mildred retired and married John Urich. They had five wonderful years together in Taft. By the early 1990s Mildred was ready to travel. Her grandson, Mark Maydew, showed her the world from France to Australia and Singapore to China.
