Mildred Kathryn “Billie” Shafer Ward, 82, of Rt. 1, Mt. Clare, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Ward was born in Clarksburg on January 25, 1928, a daughter of the late Lionel C. and Mamie Lee Devault Shafer. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Delbert Ward. Also surviving are two daughters, Lana Carol Lewis and her husband Henry, Kingsport, TN, and Debra Brown and her husband Roger, Mt. Clare; four grandchildren, Bryan Lewis, Chicago, IL, Starla Schnurbusch and her husband Aaron, Ashville, TN, Keith Lewis and his wife Angelia, Kingsport, TN, and Mark Brown and his wife Erika, Bridgeport; and three great grandchildren, Calliope Schnurbusch, Isla Lewis, and Ryan Brown. Mrs. Ward was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Lionel “Hop” Shafer and Wayne L. Shafer; and one sister, Lorraine Shafer Ward. Mildred was active for many years in the Mt. Clare Methodist Church and Women’s Society, and a volunteer for the Mt. Clare Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She was a charter member of the Mt.
