Died Monday morning May 1, 2017. Millie was born October 26, 1922 in Ree Heights, South Dakota, a daughter of Carl and Kathryn (Hague) Speirs. She graduated from South Dakota State University and the University of Illinois; she also served honorably with the U.S. Navy during WWII. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of her life and was employed as a librarian with WMU for 14 years and the Upjohn Company for 7 years, before retiring.
Millie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, as well as local chapters of the American Association of University Women, the Ladies Library Association, & the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Alan G. Hedrick; a son, Gary J. Hedrick; and a brother, Carl “Lee” Speirs. On September 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” E. Hedrick who died Saturday, June 10th, 2017. She is survived by 2 daughters, Carol (Dan) Dustin of Sturgis and Linda H. Fazio of Kalamazoo; 2 grandchildren, Gina (Justin) Fazio Terada of Chicago and Gary M. Fazio of Kalamazoo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
