Mildred Jane Donaldson Chaney Sterling, August 6, 1953 – October 2, 2014.
Mildred “Jane” Donaldson Chaney Sterling was born August 6, 1953 to Manuel Beryl Donaldson and Violet Cross Donaldson. She was a lifelong resident of Moody, Texas. As a young woman, Jane was active in sports, setting a district scoring record for women’s high school basketball. A graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Scott & White School of Nursing, she worked at several local hospitals and finally over 25 years at Scott & White School Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the American College of Cardiologists, a nurse clinician, and former charge nurse of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinic.
She received certifications in psychology, surgical and cardiovascular disciplines, and received multiple awards for nursing skill and patient care, including being named Nurse of the Year and Top 25 Nurses in the Scott & White Healthcare System. A devout Christian and active member of the First United Methodist Church of Moody, Jane was respected as a teacher and youth leader, and was widely admired for her singing ability. She served in numerous church choirs, including the Temple Community Choir, and was repeatedly asked to perform in the special occasions of others, as well as lead many worship services. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Gloria Jean, and sister Judy McMillan.
Today, she is survived by her husband William A. Sterling of Moody; two brothers M.B. “Sonny” Donaldson and wife Suzanne of Spring, Kent Donaldson and wife Dorothy of Moody; brother-in-law Jim McMillan of Crawford; her sons Michael Paul Chaney, wife Alicia and their children Ella Grace, Nathan and Nicholas; Patrick Taylor Chaney, wife Lindsay and daughter Taylor; and John Spencer Chaney, wife Celina and sons Benjamin and Thomas; (Additional Sons) Brian Andrew Sterling, wife Frankie and daughter Teagan; Matthew Ross Sterling, wife Ashton and daughters Khloe and Riley Jane. She is further survived by nephews, nieces, great nephews/nieces, as well as other family and co-workers she dearly loved. Mrs. Sterling quietly passed away at her home in Moody October 2, 2014 after a courageous battle against cancer. She will be greatly missed for her constant service to others, loyalty to her friends, unconditional love for her family and she will always be remembered for her infectious laugh.
