Mildred I. Hamel, 91 years, of Jacksonville, IL died Friday evening, December 29, 2006 at the Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville.

She was born March 2, 1915 in Morgan County, IL; the daughter of Clifford and Estella Gorham Cox. She married Harold E. Hamel on July 25, 1934 in Chicago, IL and he preceded in death on August 23, 1985.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Hamel (wife, Roberta) of Carlinville and Cliff Hamel (wife, Reta) of Jacksonville; a daughter, Helen Dolling (husband, Bernard) of Foster City, CA; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth E. Oâ??Brien (husband, Daniel) of Madison, WI, Tracey L. Schroeder (husband, Tom) of Oak Park, Larry Hamel Jr. (Wife, Julia) of Willcox, AZ, John Hamel (wife, Mary) of Carlinville, Charles Hamel (wife, Cathy) of Carlinville, Ann L. Hamel of Shiloh, Brynn Beauchamp (husband, Robert) of Houston, TX, and Marnie Larsen of Manhattan Beach, CA; two step grandchildren, Greg Dolling and Andrew Dolling, both of San Francisco, CA; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Hills Scholfield of Jacksonville and Helen Killam (husband, John) of Jacksonville; and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Orval Cox.

Mrs. Hamel was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and a homemaker. Her home was the hub for family gatherings, when cooking and entertaining were her passion. She was a long-time active member of the Lynnville Christian Church and a former 4-H leader. She was a charter member of the Morgan County Home Extension and a member of Morgan County Garden Club.
