It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Mildred Eugene Pinckney Broughton, 78, of Cross, South Carolina, who transitioned on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Summerville Community Hospice House, Summerville, South Carolina. The family will be receiving family and friends at the residence, 2344 Old Number 6 Highway, Cross, South Carolina, 29436   from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM daily.

Mildred Broughton Life Reflections

Mrs. Mildred Eugene Pinckney Broughton was born June 11, 1945, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell Pinckney, Sr. She departed this earthly realm on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

She attained her early educational foundation at Ebenezer Zion School and later earned her diploma in 1961 from Central High School.

Upon her marriage to James Broughton, Mildred became a dedicated member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cross, South Carolina. There she served faithfully as the secretary of the church and president of United Methodist Women, amongst various other committees. She was also a member of the Jehovah Chapter #203: Order of the Eastern Star.

She served as the secretary for Cross High School for thirty-seven and a half years and later retired to pursue her personal interests.

Mildred was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Broughton and her parents, Rosalee and Caldwell Pinckney, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a loving husband, James Broughton of Cross, SC; a son, James Anthony (Deloris) Broughton of St. Stephen, SC; a daughter, Bridget (Josh) Owens of Greenville, SC; ten grandchildren: Latoya (Brandon) Lester, Crystal Broughton, Dr. Anthony Broughton, Shiquita (Curtis) Shine, Dakota Broughton, Christopher Williams, Nicolas (Ashley) Williams, Dynasty Owens, Shakaisha Broughton, and Serenity Doctor; ten great grandchildren; nine siblings: Linda (Peter) Taylor, Councilman Caldwell (Margaret) Pinckney Jr., Rev. William (Rev. Shirley) Pinckney, Geneva (Leroy) Stewart, Gwen (Homer) Anderson, Glover (Marilyn) Pinckney, James (Stacy) Pinckney, Gloria Pinckney, and Jloundia Pinckney; four sisters-in-love: Mary (Tyrone) Lawerance, Rosann Gavin, Diana (Elwich ) Byas, and IvyLee Brasley; her caregiver: Betty Ferguson; special friends: Delores Middleton and Dorothy Ferguson; two god daughters; Jennifer Montgomery and April Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
