Sis. Mildred Christine Jackson Robinson, a resident of Grove Hill, was born on Jan. 1, 1936 in Gainestown to the parentage of the late Queen Elizabeth Creighton Jackson and Peter Jackson. She departed this life Dec. 12, 2020 at University Hospital in Mobile.
A 1956 graduate of Harper High School in Jackson, she would become employed at Thomasville Hospital as a dietitian for more than 13 years.
At an early age, Mildred confessed Christ and joined the Good Hope AME Church in Gainestown, where she served as the Sunday school teacher. On May 12, 1957, she married a World War II veteran, Deacon Ozie Robinson Sr. and to that union, they were blessed by five children and one adopted son.
Later, she moved her membership to Pine Chapel No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church in Grove Hill, where she remained until her death. She enjoyed a 33-year marriage until the passing of her husband in 1990. Mildred lived a very active church life. She served as a deacon’s wife, matron counselor, Sunday school teacher, missionary society member, the vice president for more than 20 years, as well as president of the Bethel Baptist District Women’s Convention. The Rev. James G. Curry serves as moderator. She also served as the usher president in the Bethel Baptist Association. In the community, Mildred was on the Industrial Board and also worked as a poll worker for the city of Grove Hill.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband; one brother, Frank Jackson; and five sisters, Mary Jackson, Bessie Barnes, Irene Edmond, Dorothy Jackson and Ethel Bumpers.
Mildred will forever be cherished in the hearts of her six loving and devoted children, including two sons, Carl (Sharon) Robinson and Ozie Robinson Jr., both of Grove Hill; adopted son, Eric (Wanda) Robinson of Jackson; three daughters, the Rev. Evelyn (Aaron) Chapman of Jackson, Min. Majorie (Hubert) Roper of Toddtown and Ms. Bettye Robinson of Grove Hill; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Robinson, Christy Robinson, Larry Robinson, Dr. Audrey Chapman, Ashley Robinson, Brian Robinson, Jamel Scott and Zayden Robinson; six great-grandchildren, Kiana Coates, Kelsie Washington, Laquintin Roper, Shanecia Robinson, Tamyrah Robinson and Jahre Westbrook; one great-great-grandchild, Lyla Robinson; with a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; and many other loving and devoted relatives and friends, with special friends Laura Law, Lela Patterson, Dorthula Robinson, Mary Jackson, Creola Wesley and Rose Ann Jackson.
