MILDRED B. JONES
Mildred B. Jones, 96, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born 1916 in Portland, Maine she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Fannie (Brooks) Terrill
Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Portland High School, Portland, Maine.
She was the widow of both Joseph Smitz and Byron Jones.
She was formerly employed by Dickinson College and was a retired keypunch operator for the former Kinney Shoe Corporation, Carlisle.
A member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Carlisle for over 60 years, she served as organist and pianist at the church for over 50 years. Mrs. Jones was a Sunday School teacher; choir member and very involved in the Missionary Circle.
She served on the Church Library Committee; as an Usher: Church Janitress; assisted in decorating the church; Church Financial Secretary; assisted the late pastor with the Adams County Migrant Worker Child Day Care.
She held membership in the ABWA; the Prison Parole Review Board; the Gospel Music Workshop (Harrisburg Chapter) and was an associate member of the Capital Area Music Association. She was also involved in the Carlisle District, Cumberland County and State Sunday School Associations.
She was preceded in death by her brother Samuel Terrill; a granddaughter: Tonia; grandson: Brian and step grandson: Ricardo.
Surviving her are: three sons and one daughter: Alba Cornish (and wife Ellen) of Huntersville, NC; Wayne C. Smitz (and wife Gerald Dean) of Harrisburg and Curtis B. Smitz (and wife Linda) of Carlisle; Ann C. Smitz-Davis (and husband Ronald) Philadelphia; six grandchildren: Michael Cornish, Senta M. Bordley; Angela M. Smitz-Wood, Matthew J. Smitz; William Carey II; and Malik Davis; 21 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
