Mike was born on August 2, 1948.
He was raised by a single mother and grew up with his siblings: Tino, Meche, Carlos, Beto, and Johnny.
As a child, his favorite show was The Lone Ranger. Christmases were a lone Holiday until one Christmas his brother Tino gave him a present, that he loved throughout his life, a western belt with 2 play silver guns and a western hat. Throughout Mikes life his favorite movies were western movies.
During his teenage years, he met his love of his life, Maria. But God had other plans and life took them into separate ways.
Mike had a passion for music and learned to sing. His uncle taught him to utilize and maximize his singing talent. He then joined a rock n roll band as the lead singer called “The Stukas,” in Tijuana. But even though he would come on stage with the Batman song, and performed, that life was not for him.
Mike heard of a war in Vietnam and decided to join the Army. God saved him from death during the war and was able to come back to rekindle with Maria and marry her.
He was blessed with 5 children: Maggie, Michael, Gabriel, Angie and Michael Jr, 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren
Mike was introduced to horse racing and became horse racing fan number one. He learned the numbers, averages, jockeys and trainers throughout his life.
Mike worked in construction all his life, man of all trades, but his artistic talent was stucco. He took pride in every stroke of cement on the wall. He knew how to plaster everything in the book, and if he didn’t know, he would learn it. If you knew Mike growing up, at one point of your life you worked with Mike! And boy does everyone have stories about working with him!
Mike loved and enjoyed food! But his go to foods were Pizza Hut super supreme pizza, KFC, Chinese food, root beer, fudge stripe cookies, anchovies, tuna, sardines, to mention a few.
Mike was proud of all his children, even though he was not a man that showed emotion, he showed his love with actions.
Mike was funny, he had a sarcastic way of saying things with double meaning and made everyone laugh with his jokes, for example, “I’m not showering until next year!” when it was December 31st.
Mike was not perfect, who is?! He struggled with PTSD due to the war. He always commented he was not worthy of such amazing children and grandchildren, of such loving and caring family. Mike had a strong character, but he loved to give, share, and see people around him smile.
