Miguel Portillo of Hackensack was 83 when he passed away peacefully with his wife by his side Wednesday, April 29th. Born in Puerto Rico, Miguel lived in New York City before settling in Northern New Jersey where he lived the rest of his life. Miguel proudly served his Country in the Korean War serving in the US Army. He worked for many years as a Film Editor for NBC News. In 1972 he proudly received an Emmy Award for his work on a documentary depicting the plight of the Cuban Refugees. Throughout his life Miguel was known for his poetry, in his later years he would put his poetry to music becoming one of Puerto Rico’s most notable composers.

Miguel was the beloved husband of Nelly Portillo (Sosa), the loving father of Marisa Susini and husband Domenico III, Delia McEllen and husband Richard, Robert Portillo and Peter Portillo, He was predeceased by his late son Edward Portillo and a late son Mario Portillo. He was the devoted grandfather of Joel Susini, Sean Susini, Justin Susini, Lauren McEllen, Michael McEllen, Robert Portillo, Jr., Danielle Portillo, and the late Donnie Susini IV. Miguel was the cherished great-grandfather of Ryan and Jordyn Susini. He leaves behind his cousins Anna Ferrante and Rita Downs.
