Michael W. Hicks, 55, of Newton, formerly of Des Moines died on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at his home.
Michael, the son of Smith and Margaret (Davis) Hicks, was born on July 28, 1962 in Davenport. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated in 1982 from North High School. In 1995, Michael began a 20-year career at Wal-Mart. On August 13, 2005, Michael was united in marriage with Donna Sites Barnes in Des Moines. In 2015, they moved to Newton and Michael also began working at the Right Stuf in Grimes. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Those left to honor Michael’s life are his wife, Donna Barnes-Hicks of Newton; children, Emily Hicks and Aaron Hicks, both of Des Moines; step-children, Marty Sites of Newton and Robbie Williams (Holly Brooks) of Des Moines; grandson, Nathan; his father, Smith (Jan) Hicks; mother, Margaret Hicks of Des Moines; siblings, Karen (Bill) Howard of Urbandale, Laurie Hicks of Des Moines, and Mark (Sally) Hicks of Des Moines; his two nieces, Amberly and Crystal Howard; and two great-nephews, Matthew and Liam Howard. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
