Michael Walter “Mickey” Carroll Jr., 79, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, (November 2, 2011), at the Hospital of Central Connecticut.  Born on January 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Michael and Lilian (Holmquist) Carroll.

He was a 1949 graduate of Plainville High School and went on to work over 40 years at the A&C Motor Company, also in Plainville.  He was a member of the Plainville Volunteer Fire Department and a longtime member of The Elks Club for New Britain CT, Lodge #957.  He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve.  Mike always had a passion for sports; he was a Plainville little league baseball coach, high school basketball referee, baseball umpire and college football field judge, where he received much notoriety.  He was especially known amongst friends for hosting Sunday morning coffee, where he always provided the coffee, donuts and conversation.

He is survived by his son, Vincent “Vinny” Au and wife Ruo “Bing” of Plainville; two grandchildren, Carol and Matthew “Matt” Au also of Plainville; a sister, Marion Kirkwood of Burlington, CT; a sister-in-law, Judith “Judy” Carroll of St Albans, VT; many nieces; and nephews; and many friends.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert “Bob” and Richard “Dick” Carroll; and a sister, Doris (Carroll) Lebel.  Mike touched everyone that he came in contact with through his warmth, kindness, generosity, but most importantly, glowing personality.  He was the most loving father and grandfather who always put his family first.
