Michael Steven Bradley passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 67. Mike “Bobo” Bradley loved the people of Greene County. Well, technically, one could extend that geographical boundary a bit, but he truly loved the people of this area. The businesses he patronized and the circles he travelled would certainly be graced by a few moments of storytelling and laughter with his arrival. The odd thing about his persona was that in the midst of all this social interaction, he truly found peace and his identity in the solitude of a tractor cab. You see, he saw this place as something special, both in the people and the land. He was brought here at age 7 by the marriage of Bobby Bradley and Pat Sheffield. The tight confines of a housing project in Macon gave way to the spaces provided by the dairy farm on Stagecoach Road. The adventure was on, and Mike extracted the maximum joy from a place abundant in resources to provide that joy. Maybe we take for granted that friendships are deep and tight here. Maybe we think it normal to walk out your door to abundant hunting and fishing, but Mike never took these things for granted.
Mike’s high school years could be summarized in two words: football and cars. He played tackle both ways and could certainly hold his own in that position. He was the greatest long snapper in Greene County history. We can say this because, in four years, there was never a misplaced snap for a punt, field goal, or extra point. Mike loved anything on wheels, and this was especially true of his high school rides which included a Plymouth GTX and Mustang Mach 1. These, and other classic cars, would often gather on Friday and Saturday nights at the Firestone parking lot as their owners loved this spot to pass the time on warm summer nights.
After high school, Mike worked for a few years on the dairy. A friend asked him to come and help him grow his timber business. Mike jumped on board. 4 a.m. milkings didn’t always geehaw with some of Mike’s social activities.
God is so good. He knew the old boy would need someone to help him along the way. He married Jo Ann Nanney in November, 1994. Jo Ann graced his life with a ton of love and joy. She took to the farm like a duck to water and may even love it more than he. God often gives us more than we deserve. Jo and Mike loved to scoot down to Amelia Island when they could and could often be found grilling on their back porch.
Mike you are dearly loved by sweet Jo, Robert and Rhonda, Tom and Libby, Jean and Greg, Adam and Leslie (Connor Mac, & Luci), Ginger and Steve (James), Suzanne and Tyler, Charles and Michaela, and Joe. His passing is mourned by a wide circle of friends and extended family.
