Michael Vaini, 70, of Peru, passed away Saturday evening, August 10, 2019, in his wife’s arms after a long battle with cancer. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru. Michael was born June 1, 1949, in Spring Valley to Raymond Vaini and Margaret Moats. He was raised by his foster mother, Cora Story, his favorite foster sister, Darleen Bernadoni, and siblings Blanch, Rose, and Kathleen. He was a graduate of Hopkins High School, Granville. He married Suzanne Kolody Vaccaro on June 7, 1996, in Ottawa.

Mike was an ironworker for 30 years for Local 393, Aurora. He belonged to the International Association of Bridge Structural Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers, the Illinois Valley Historical Research and Recovery Association, and the Illinois Rifle Association. His hobbies included metal detecting and carpentry.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; two sons, Michael (Rae) Vaini and Chad (Lynn) Vaini, two step-children, Kelly (Curt) Vondrasek and Ronald Vaccaro; four grandchildren, Jake Vaini, Clayton Vaini, Renna Vondrasek and Taryn Vondrasek; one brother, Dale Vaini; his foster sister, Darleen Bernadoni; good friend and cousin, Craig Vignalie; favorite and close friends, Father Paul, Bill and Tim and his two cats, Gracy and Charley.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his foster mother, Cora Story; his sisters, Judy Norton, Sandy Vaini, and Margo Ventura; his favorite brother-in-law, Donley Bernadoni and his loving cat, Pete.
