Michael R. Manes passed away on September 28, 2016. He is survived by his wife Diann and sons Mark, David, and John, as well as his brother Stephen Manes and sister Wendy Manes.

Mike was born March 24, 1944 in San Francisco, CA, the son of Lt. Col. Donald L. Manes, Jr. and Shirley Ann (Edwards) Manes. Growing up in an army family, Mike had the opportunity to experience life in different countries around the world––Germany, England, and Japan––and lived in several states in the U.S. He graduated from high school in Alexandria, VA and went on to earn a BSEE from Duke University.

By 1969 Mike was a Navy jet pilot flying A-4’s to Viet Nam and back from his station at Cubi Point in the Philippines. After completing his tour of duty in the Navy, he returned to civilian life and began his career as an electrical engineer, finally ending up in the field of medical electronics, which he loved.

Working in electrotechnology led Mike to become a member of IEC, (International Electrotechnical Commission), the committee of technical experts who are responsible for the international standards for electrosurgical equipment.

Mike’s other love was Amateur Radio.

Volunteering was a way of life for Mike; and, last but not least, he spent many hours devoted to political causes. He wanted to leave the planet better than he found it.

Mike will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
