Michael Paul Surface, age 39, of Haldeman Heights, Morehead, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021, at St. Claire HealthCare Center in Morehead due to injuries sustained in an accident.

 

Born June 21, 1982, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, he is the son of Paul and Debbie Fannin Surface of Alexandria, Indiana.

 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 19 years, Crystal Kelsey Surface, whom he married November 24, 2001; two daughters, Kayla Alexis of Morehead and Kayleigh Ariel of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; and one grandson, Kingston Armoni.

 

Other survivors include one brother, Jeffrey Fannin of Morehead; step father, David Combess of Morehead; a special aunt and uncle, Mollie and Junior Sparks of Elliottville; an uncle, Darrell Fannin of Soldier; mother-in-law, Cheryl Kelsey of Morehead; brother-in-law, Chris (Michaela) Kelsey of Morehead; sister-in-law, LeeAnn (Travis) Butler of Olive Hill; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and many friends.

 

Michael was a loving husband, son, father, and grandfather and was currently a borer for G & W Construction Company where he had been employed for ten years. He was a jack-of-all trades and was known as a hard worker and an honest man.

 

Michael and Crystal became sweethearts at the age of 13. They shared an unconditional love for each other and were true soulmates and best friends. Crystal was his “Sunshine.” Michael will be greatly missed and always remembered with love.

 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Floyd and Venita Surface; maternal grandparents, Roger and Barbara Fultz; maternal grandmother, Jewell Combess; and father-in-law, Charles Wade Kelsey.
