Michael Patrick Dietz, 66, of Prospect passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on January 19, 2022. He was the loving husband of Carol (Pohorylo) Dietz for over 35 years. He was born February 3, 1955 in North Miami Beach, Florida a son to the late Robert F. Dietz and raised by the late Catherine (Gallagher) Lefemine and his stepfather, Daniel Lefemine.
Mike proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam era as a submarine sonar system technician. He was awarded a Meritorious Commendation from the President of the United States as well as other medals. The six years Mike served segued into a lifelong dedication to his country in the civilian setting as well. He continued his education and became an IT analyst in the bankruptcy court for the federal government.
Most importantly, Mike was a wonderful husband to Carol, father to his two sons Eric and Patrick and brother to his sister Colleen. He coached and managed so many of the boys’ sports teams – never missing a practice or game. Mike and his sister Colleen started at an early age learning to become tremendous chefs in their family restaurant, the Red Lobster, in West Haven. Food was the center of so many occasions, Mike poured his love into each and every dish he prepared.
Growing up in the Dietz family meant annual competitions in the Mud Volleyball Epilepsy Foundation Tournaments, vacations to North Carolina, Florida and other areas of the U.S.
Left to cherish his love and memory are his loving wife Carol of Prospect, sons Eric and partner Bethany Griffin of Bristol and Patrick and wife Megan Murray of Boston, and sister Colleen and husband Cevdet Susut of North Carolina as well as many friends who were like family.
