Michael P. Martin, Sr., 66, of Plymouth, passed September 9, 2021. Michael was born July 21, 1955 in Dorchester to Ernest L. Martin and Theresa (Horton) Martin. One of eleven children, Michael spent his school years in Dorchester then Braintree, before joining the U.S. Navy. Awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, Michael returned from Vietnam and settled back on the east coast and married the late Margaret ‘Peggy’ (McCarthy) Martin, and lovingly welcomed his children Toni, Michael Jr., Joseph, and the late Tina Martin. Working for various town and state jobs, Michael spent many years working for the U.S. Postal Service until early retirement. His second marriage was to Diane (Flaherty) Martin, and Michael welcomed sons, Sean, Shane, and Cody, into his family. The Martins settled in Plymouth, and that’s where Michael, better known as ‘Coach’ found his particular forte. Coach Martin spent most of his years in Plymouth as the head or assistant coach to some kind of sports in the community. Whether it was Town T-ball, Instructional, Minors, or Majors Baseball, Youth Vikings Football, or Plymouth North High School Track, Softball, Baseball, or Football, Coach Martin made it a commitment to share his knowledge of the games, but most importantly, to make sure the kids had fun. Everyone seems to have a Coach Martin story.
