Michael N. Stanco, 67, of Southington, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 28, 2011.

Mike was born in Waterbury on December 20, 1943, one of five children to the late Henry and Elizabeth (Menzelle) Stanco.  Raised in Watertown, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962, shortly after graduating from Watertown High School.  He proudly served his country for four years during the Vietnam era, receiving an honorable discharge.  Mike went on to attend the American International College, from where he received his accounting degree, and worked for more than twenty years for the City of Waterbury’s Urban Renewal Agency, retiring as Chief Financial Officer in 1996.  A man of hard work ethics, he never fully retired, and was a valuable employee for H & R Block where he worked seasonally.  Mike married the love of his life, Mary (Maddocks) on New Years Eve, 1970, to whom he was a devoted and adoring husband for forty years.  They made their home and raised their family in Southington, a town he grew to love, and was known to rarely leave the house without a pair of his famous suspenders.  Mike had an unforgettable, larger than life personality, creating a wide circle of friends everywhere he went.  He enjoyed welcoming people into his home, being surrounded by his family and friends, and spreading his infectious love for life with those around him.  He will be greatly missed, and leaves his family with many life lessons and cherished memories that will never be forgotten.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he leaves his children, Lisa Allocca and her husband, Craig of Marlborough, and Kurt Stanco and his wife, Ana of New Britain; and his three grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Ethan, Aaron, and Isabel.  He also leaves his brothers, Henry and his wife, Jessica of Broken Arrow, OK; and David of Torrington; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother, Henry, and his sister, Carmel Spiotti.
