Michael “Mike” P. Kusturin, 93 of Centralia, passed away Thursday, May 05, 2016, at Fireside House of Centralia. He was born January 10, 1923, in Johnston City, the son of Ivan John Kusturin and Julia (Repic) Kusturin.
He married Patty Joann Gaetti on June 27, 1952, in Arkansas and she survives in Centralia.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is also survived by a son, Michael K. Kusturin of Centralia; a daughter, Debbie Dillingham and husband Ken of Centralia; a sister, Agnes Holder of Herrin; a brother-in-law, Bill Gaetti, and wife Jackie of Centralia; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: John Kusturin and Andy Kusturin, two sisters: Helen Gorsich and Rose Scoffic, and a younger brother, David Kusturin.
Mike graduated from Johnston City High School. He played football, baseball, and basketball during his high school years. He served in the European and Asian Theatres during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Mike worked at the Steel Mills in Chicago after he served in the Navy and later moved down to Centralia. When he moved to Centralia he worked at Valley Steel, Midwest Dairy for 18 years, and Centralia Cartage for 13 years and later retired. Mike was of the Catholic Faith. He played Semi-Pro Baseball for the Cub Farm Team as their catcher and he also played in the Centralia Merchants League. He coached Rec League baseball for many years. He enjoyed playing the lottery, golf, and junking. Mike was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
